There’s a thin line between overwhelm and innovation
Recent research by aconso reveals a critical disconnect between technological potential and operational reality for HR leaders.
The study, "Transitioning from Manual to Meaningful," paints a stark picture of HR teams struggling to keep pace with rapid business transformations, highlight the mounting pressures faced by these departments.
A concerning 73% of HR leaders struggle to align strategy with changing business objectives and 43% feel overwhelmed by the sheer volume of HR responsibilities.47% are caught in a cycle of managing performance issues and organisational changes while 54% are making more errors due to manual processes.
While HR recognises the critical importance of digital transformation, current technological implementations are failing to deliver meaningful support. The research exposes a significant gap.
Over the next three to five years, HR leaders anticipate four critical trends:
1. AI and Automation (63%)
2. Enhanced Employee Well-being Initiatives (60%)
3. Workforce Reskilling (59%)
4. Demonstrable HR Impact Measurement (58%)
However, the current technology landscape is already causing burn-out for HR teams with 53% reporting on fragmented solutions increasing workloads. 64% find existing tools too generic for specific HR needs, 70% spend excessive time on policy compliance and 60% struggle with document management.
On the flip side, HR leaders see AI and Automation as the top investment area with an already near 100% uptake of AI in recruitment, payroll, and benefits. 56% seek further dedicated HR solutions over generic platforms and 54% aim to build a more integrated tech stack.
Ulrich Jaenicke, Co-founder and CEO of aconso, says, "the post-pandemic rush to digital technologies post pandemic has left many HR teams teams with several core workflow issues thanks to disjointed systems, siloed data, and manual processes.
She adds that “technology can deliver value – but only if it improves the experience of HR teams, rather than adds to current challenges. AI and digital investments must be considered to unlock HR’s potential and drive meaningful change.”
