Research consistently shows that employees who feel valued through a competitive and fair rewards system are more motivated to perform at a high level
Rewards convey what an organisation truly values, reinforcing the behaviours and actions it wants to see from its people. Today’s talent is increasingly drawn to organisations that care about employee wellbeing and experience, not just compensation.
The Rewards 2023, held Hilton London Watford, served as an opportunity to recognise those who exemplify those core values. Shared Services Connected Limited (SSCL) was awarded for its innovative and comprehensive approach to supporting the financial health and overall wellbeing of its employees during economic struggles. Its win also showed how companies can strengthen their reward offerings in 2024, through the lens of continued economic uncertainty.
SSCL implemented a multi-faceted financial wellbeing strategy that provided immediate financial relief as well as long-term education to equip employees with money management skills. Initiatives included one-time bonuses, permanently increasing minimum salaries, launching a Special Employee Fund to help with unexpected costs, and offering free breakfasts to reduce daily expenses.
The company also held financial awareness webinars, promoted national money management events, created online budgeting and savings resources, and facilitated access to free professional financial advice. Employees gained access to confidential counselling and mental health services, health assessments, parenting and fertility support, and a health cash plan.
Our judges praised SSCL’s "transformation and creativity," evidenced by practical solutions like hardship funds and free meals. They highlighted the range of financial and mental health services made accessible to employees when needed most. One judge commented that supporting employees in difficult times demonstrated SSCL’s commitment to a "well-rounded reward strategy."
Judges also noted SSCL’s focus on education and empowerment so employees can develop long-term skills to manage their finances with future personalisation prospects looking positive.
By prioritising employees’ holistic wellness during economic uncertainty, SSCL set itself apart through an award-winning reward strategy centred on compassion and care. The company’s understanding that "wellbeing goes beyond physical health" drives innovative programs to meet a spectrum of interrelated needs. SSCL sets a high standard for supporting people so they can perform at their best while facing workplace and personal financial stressors.
