James Timpson revealed that all workers will be able to claim back their prescription costs when they are recommended HRT.
As yesterday marked World Menopause Day (18 October), one employer has shared how they plan to support employees going through the menopause.
James Timpson, CEO of retailer Timpson, shared on Twitter that all workers will be able to claim back their prescription costs when they are recommended hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
Sharing the news, he wrote: “From today all my colleagues can claim on expenses their prescription costs when they are recommended HRT. It’s so important that we support our colleagues going through the menopause.”

The initiative was welcomed by users of the social media platform. User Lucy Moir shared that she loved that Timpson had identified “all colleagues” in his post as Moir explained: “Too often people forget that it’s not just women who go through the menopause. Well done for being such an awesome leader.”
Similarly, Christine Mackay wrote that she was “more and more impressed” by the company’s support for its staff.
Mackay said: “Every time I read about your company I’m more and more impressed. What kind of country would we be if this was the norm for business? Good on you.”
Finally, another user, Ross Cooper, shared praise for the scheme: “Helping unemployed, ex-convicts and now those going through menopause. Timpson’s seems to do things right as an employer. Lot of businesses could learn from them (sic).”
With stats from the CIPD finding that 59% of working women between the ages of 45 and 55 who experience menopause symptoms admit that it impacts them at work, workplace benefits like Timpson’s will likely help to elevate any stress felt by employees experiencing these symptoms.
Timspon’s benefits package
Timpson has been praised in the past for its various schemes including its mental health and wellbeing support, such as a £100 incentive for successfully giving up smoking and a pet bereavement day if an employee loses a beloved furry friend.
There are also benefits for families too as Timpson offers free holiday homes to foster families.
Plus, the business is known for hiring former ex-offenders, as 10% of its workforce is made up of people who have criminal convictions.
On the company site, Timpson explained: “The vast majority of ex-offenders we recruit are extremely loyal, productive, hardworking and make excellent colleagues. Many have been promoted and fully grasped the second chance they have been given. To put it simply, recruiting ex-offenders has been great for our business.”
