Leaked documents have found that staff are being told to “identify their privileged identities” and rank themselves on a hierarchy.
It has emerged that Google employees are being given “racial equity training”, according to leaked whistleblower documents.
The antiracism trainings, which were obtained by City Journal reporter Christopher Rufo, who has been working to expose alleged ‘critical race theory indoctrination’ in firms, revealed the details of a session that asserted America was based on a “system of white supremacy” where babies learn to be racist as young as three months old.
In the documents, it revealed that the sessions are based on the core principles of Critical Race Theory (CRT), reported the Daily Mail.
And many of the training sessions feature CRT buzzwords such as ‘white privilege’, ‘systemic racism’, ‘equity’ and ‘intersectionality’.
Another session dubbed ‘Allyship in Action’ asks workers at the tech giant to “identify their privileged identities” and rank themselves on a hierarchy.
A separate diagram, which was leaked to City Journal, is called ‘Wheel of Power/Privilege’, where one section of a wheel notes that “gay men” have more privilege and power than “lesbian, bi, pansexual and asexual people”.
At the moment, it isn’t clear if the training is mandatory for all staff to attend to.
According to reports, a DEI lead at Google reportedly created an internal document titled ‘Anti-racism resources’, where readings and racial-consciousness exercises have been included.
It details an additional graphic that lists covert and “socially acceptable” forms of white supremacy, which stated that the phrase “make America great again” is a form of covert white supremacy.
In addition to this, another graphic called ‘The White Supremacy Pyramid’ features public figures such as former President Donald Trump.
Last year, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai announced ‘racial equity trainings’ within the firm following the Black Lives Matter movement and the death of George Floyd.
At the time he wrote: “We’ll be welcoming external experts into Google to share their expertise on racial history and structural inequities, and start conversations on education, allyship, and self-reflection.
“We plan to roll out this training globally by early next year. We’ll also integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion into our mandatory manager trainings.”
Training backlash
Google isn’t the first company to come under fire for its racial training exercises.
Earlier this year Coca-Cola was accused of reverse racism after it used a training video that encouraged its employees to “try to be less white”.
At the time, the training session was leaked by an employee at the firm where presentation slides found that workers were told to be “less ignorant” and “less oppressive”.
While Google’s training is taking place in the US, this type of training raises concerns of discrimination and racism for HR teams in the UK.
